WEATHER UPDATE: SATURDAY 10-31-2026

Clouds are streaming into our skies this morning as the storm system approaches from the southwest. Light showers should move into the area 3 to 5 PM. The heavier rain will then arrive after 9 PM. Rain with isolated downpours will persist through the night and into Sunday morning. Most of the rain will dissipate by midday, though isolated showers will still be possible in the mountains into the afternoon.

I've posted the computer projection for rain totals below, which has our area getting around 1 to 2" of rainfall.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED WEDNESDAY 10-28-2026

I've been hesitant to post about this next storm system because long-range computer forecasts can be extremely unreliable early in the rain season. They have been showing various paths for this upcoming storm - some directly overhead, some to our south.

Currently there is a large storm system spinning over the west coast of Canada, which is seen in the satellite loop below. Some energy will dive down the backside of this system and then head our way this weekend.

There will be a tropical connection with this system, which will transport moisture into our area. This is also called an atmospheric river, and can be seen on the second image below, which is the forecast for Saturday night. This will increase the chances for heavy rain Saturday night into early Sunday.

It's still too early to pinpoint timing and storm track - this storm could drift to our south. I've posted the current computer projection for rainfall through Sunday.

Keep a close eye to the forecast heading into this weekend. I'll definitely have more updates here!

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 10-19-2026

Our first "real" storm is headed this way. By "real", I mean non-tropical storm. This one is coming from the Gulf of Alaska and is currently spinning off the coast of the Pacific Northwest.

You can see it spinning in the satellite loop below, which also highlights low level moisture. In this loop, there isn't a strong connection to tropical moisture.

The second image is a computer projection of low level moisture by Thursday, while the storm is passing overhead. It's enough to bring some good rain showers, but this storm is moving too fast to get a real connection to the tropics.

Showers will move in early Thursday morning and persist on-and-off through the day. Rain will exit the area by Friday morning. We could see an isolated thunderstorm Thursday evening, however, there will be better chances farther north near the storm's core.

I've included the computer projection for rainfall, which shows our area getting 0.5 to 1.5" of rainfall.

I'm keeping an eye on another system that could arrive late next week. I'll post updates soon.

Happy rain season everyone!

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED 10 AM SATURDAY 10-10-2026

Tropical Storm Rachel is headed this way. You can see it in the satellite loop below. It's fairly ragged with precipitation mainly in the northern section of the storm. In other words, it's weakening.

With that said, all computer guidance has the center of the storm moving just southeast of our area. I've included the computer projections of track and intensity.

Showers are possible through today, but the best chance for heavier rain will be tonight into Sunday morning. Isolated showers will still be possible through the rest of Sunday into Monday morning.

I've included the computer projection for total rainfall, which shows most of the county getting around an inch of rain. Isolated areas could get close to 2".
