NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 2-27-2023

Two storm systems will affect the area for early this week. The first system can be seen on the satellite loop below. The core of it is centered off the Pacific Northwest coastline. The second system will follow right behind.

Light showers will develop this afternoon and evening. Occasional showers will then persist through Tuesday. Then the best chance for persistent rain will arrive with the second system Tuesday evening and Tuesday night.

Rain will linger into Wednesday midday, then showers will completely dissipate by Wednesday evening.

Snow levels will range from 4,000 to 5,000 feet Monday and Tuesday. Then they will drop as low as 3,000 feet by Wednesday afternoon.

I've included the computer projected rain and snow totals below.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED TUESDAY 2-21-2023

As I had mentioned in a previous blog post, our weather patter is about to dramatically change for the end of February. A series of storm systems will dive into our area from the north and bring waves of rain and snowfall to Southern California.

The first system can be seen moving southward along the Canadian west coast in the satellite loop below. Reinforcing waves of energy will migrate out of the Gulf of Alaska and follow this path into our area.

Showers will arrive this evening and tonight. Periods of rain and isolated downpours will then be possible Wednesday and Thursday.

The heaviest rain will then arrive Friday into Saturday as the core of the system strengthens and moves overhead. It's during this time that we could see periods of heavy rain and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm.

Snow levels will rapidly drop tonight, then fluctuate between 3,000 and 4,500 feet through the entire event. They could even drop as low as 2,500.

Local mountains could receive 2-3 feet of snowfall on the highest peaks. Big Bear could see several feet of snow. I know it's tempting to head into the mountains, but please be safe and wait as the roads will be extremely dangerous.

Rain and snow should exit by midday Sunday. I've posted the computer projected rain and snowfall through Sunday below. We should receive multiple inches of rainfall across the area.

I'm also watching for another rain chance to arrive next Tuesday or Wednesday.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED FRIDAY 2-10-2023

I mentioned in my last blog post that the overall weather pattern was going to slightly change, allowing for some more rain chances for the middle and end of February.

The first system is currently spinning off the coast of Northern California (seen on this morning's satellite loop below).

This system will give us a chance for isolated showers Saturday night and through Sunday. A quick downpour is also possible during this time. Most computer data keeps the core of the system east and south of our area, which could limit rain potential. Also, there isn't much moisture associated with this storm. Snow levels will drop to 3,500-4,500 by Sunday morning.

Another system will dive down the Western U.S. coastline and bring us another chance for a few showers Monday into Tuesday. Again, the track of this system isn't ideal for substantial rain. However, it will definitely bring gusty winds to the region.

Long range data still suggests more chances for rain by the end of the month. I'll bring updates when data looks more consistent.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED SATURDAY 2-4-2023

Our next storm system is a few hundred miles off the coast in the Pacific Ocean. You can see the associated clouds in the satellite loop below. These clouds will overspread the area today and tonight.

A few showers are possible Sunday morning and early afternoon. There isn't much moisture with this system, so most rain will be light. Snow levels will drop to 5,000-6,000 feet some some light snow is possible in local mountains.

I'm keeping a closer eye on a possible pattern change by next Sunday (indicated in the map below). The computer projections are not consistent with timing, but it still looks like a couple systems could affect the area in 8-14 days.
