NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED TUESDAY 2-21-2023

As I had mentioned in a previous blog post, our weather patter is about to dramatically change for the end of February. A series of storm systems will dive into our area from the north and bring waves of rain and snowfall to Southern California.

The first system can be seen moving southward along the Canadian west coast in the satellite loop below. Reinforcing waves of energy will migrate out of the Gulf of Alaska and follow this path into our area.

Showers will arrive this evening and tonight. Periods of rain and isolated downpours will then be possible Wednesday and Thursday.

The heaviest rain will then arrive Friday into Saturday as the core of the system strengthens and moves overhead. It's during this time that we could see periods of heavy rain and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm.

Snow levels will rapidly drop tonight, then fluctuate between 3,000 and 4,500 feet through the entire event. They could even drop as low as 2,500.

Local mountains could receive 2-3 feet of snowfall on the highest peaks. Big Bear could see several feet of snow. I know it's tempting to head into the mountains, but please be safe and wait as the roads will be extremely dangerous.

Rain and snow should exit by midday Sunday. I've posted the computer projected rain and snowfall through Sunday below. We should receive multiple inches of rainfall across the area.

I'm also watching for another rain chance to arrive next Tuesday or Wednesday.
