NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 10-19-2026

Our first "real" storm is headed this way. By "real", I mean non-tropical storm. This one is coming from the Gulf of Alaska and is currently spinning off the coast of the Pacific Northwest.

You can see it spinning in the satellite loop below, which also highlights low level moisture. In this loop, there isn't a strong connection to tropical moisture.

The second image is a computer projection of low level moisture by Thursday, while the storm is passing overhead. It's enough to bring some good rain showers, but this storm is moving too fast to get a real connection to the tropics.

Showers will move in early Thursday morning and persist on-and-off through the day. Rain will exit the area by Friday morning. We could see an isolated thunderstorm Thursday evening, however, there will be better chances farther north near the storm's core.

I've included the computer projection for rainfall, which shows our area getting 0.5 to 1.5" of rainfall.

I'm keeping an eye on another system that could arrive late next week. I'll post updates soon.

Happy rain season everyone!
