The turbulent weather pattern will continue. A couple weak storm systems to our north will bring rain to parts of Central and Northern California Wednesday and Thursday. San Diego County could see a stray shower on Thursday, but the chances are looking very slim (~20%).
A better chance for rain arrives with another system on Saturday. Long range computer forecasts have been very consistent with this scenario, so I'm putting rain chances at 80%. Periods of light to moderate rain will be possible through Saturday. Most of the rain should taper Sunday, though an isolated shower can't be ruled out. Snow levels will be high with this event, so local mountains shouldn't receive snow.
I'll bring more updates if I see any changes with this scenario.

WEATHER UPDATE: WEDNESDAY 2-20-2019
There are no big changes to the forecast, though I wanted to share the latest computer projection for snowfall in the mountains. With snow levels dropping as low as 3,000 feet, it is going to be a big accumulation for local mountains! Above 5,000 could get a foot of snow...or more.
Be sure to visit the National Weather Service San Diego for the latest in weather warnings. Be safe out there!

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 2-18-2019
Our next storm system is going to dive straight south along the western North American coastline. Because it is taking this path, it won't have time to tap into significant moisture from the south. Regardless, we should still see some decent rainfall (computer forecast map below).
Isolated showers will develop Wednesday afternoon. Then rain will intensify Wednesday night and through Thursday, where intermittent moderate to heavy rain showers will be possible. Rain will then taper Thursday night into early Friday morning.
This is a cold system, so snow levels will be the lowest that we've seen so far this season. They will start at 4,500-5,000 feet Wednesday, then drop to 3,500-4,500 feet on Thursday. It's still early to pinpoint snow accumulations, but early data is showing well over 6" above 5,000 feet (computer forecast map below).
Long range computer forecasts show a slight chance for rain Sunday, but don't hold your breath. Afterwards, it looks mainly dry through most of next workweek.

WEATHER UPDATE: 7 AM THURSDAY 2-13-2019
A quick update:
Periods of moderate to heavy rain will persist into this afternoon. The heaviest rain will then move out this evening and tonight. Isolated mountain showers are possible Friday, then light rain will overspread the area Friday evening and Friday night. A stray shower is still possible Saturday, then another round of light showers will develop Sunday. Snow levels will drop to 4,500 to 5,500 feet Sunday, so local mountains will get some accumulating snow. It's still early to know exact amounts, but computer forecasts are hinting at a few inches.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED TUESDAY 2-12-2019
The next storm system is on our doorstep and will bring rain to our area Wednesday and Thursday. For the most part, this system is behaving as expected, though it sped up a tad. You can spot it on the satellite loop below. Also notice all of the moisture streaming in from the south. The storm system has drifted far enough into the Pacific to push this moisture into Southern California, which will enhance our rainfall potential.
I'm expecting rain to start between 9 AM to 1 PM Wednesday. On-and-off showers will then be possible into Wednesday night. Rain will intensify as the core of the system moves overhead Thursday morning. Periods of moderate to heavy rain will be possible Thursday early morning through Thursday evening. Most of the rain will taper by Friday morning, though an isolated shower could linger into the evening.
Rain totals will range from 1.0 to 3.0" for coastal and inland areas. Some areas in the mountains could exceed 4.0" of rainfall. Forecast maps are below.
Snow levels will remain above 9,000 to 10,000 feet for most of this rain event, though they could drop to 6,000 to 7,000 feet as the system exits Friday morning.
I'm also watching another system headed this way Sunday night into Monday morning. Although rain amounts will be fairly low, snow levels could drop as low as 4,000 to 5,000 feet.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED THURSDAY 2-7-2019
A storm system is currently spinning off the coast of the Pacific Northwest. It looks impressive on the satellite image below. This system, along with another behind it, will bring a chance for rain this weekend.
Both systems are going to be starved of moisture, so rain amounts will be extremely limited. A few showers will be possible Saturday morning (60%) as the first wave of energy passes. Another round of light rain will pass the area Sunday night (40%). Definitely don't cancel any outdoor plans this weekend.
Latest computer data continues to show a much more impressive system affecting our area next Thursday. This system is currently far away in the Arctic Circle, so a lot can change in the coming days. I'll keep an eye on it and bring updates as it approaches.
