Our next storm system has moved out of the Gulf of Alaska and is approaching our area from the northwest. Clouds will move into our skies for Sunday, however, it will remain dry and pleasantly mild.
Showers will then overspread Southern California Sunday night into Monday morning. Periods of rain and an occasional downpour will persist through Monday. I can't completely rule out an isolated thunderstorm as well. Most rain will dissipate early Tuesday morning (midday Tuesday in the mountains).
Rain totals will range from 0.5" to 1.0" for coastal and inland regions. Totals in the mountains will range from 1.0" to 3.0". I've included computer projections for rainfall below.
Snow levels will be 5,500 to 6,500 feet Sunday night, then steadily drop through the day Monday. Levels will be 3,500 to 4,500 by Monday night. The highest peaks in San Diego County could see a few inches of accumulation. Higher mountains to the north in San Jacinto and San Bernardino will easily exceed a foot of snow. I've included a computer forecast for snow accumulations below.
