WEATHER UPDATE: 7 PM FRIDAY 11-6-2020

The storm system is now on our door step. You can see the center of the storm off the coast of San Francisco in the satellite and radar loops below.

Patchy drizzle will pass the area tonight. Then periods of rain with embedded isolated downpours will persist on-and-off through Saturday. Snow levels will stay around 6,000 to 7,000 most of the day.

A second system will follow the heels of Saturday's storm. This will bring more intermittent showers through the day on Sunday. Snow levels will drop to 5,000 to 6,000 feet by Sunday evening.

I've included computer projections for 2-day rain totals through Sunday. Coastal and inland areas will see 0.5" to 1.5". Isolated areas in the mountains will exceed 2.0".

I've also included snow projections, which shows higher elevation mountains to the north getting significant snowfall. Local mountains in San Diego County could see some snow, but the ground is so warm, it will be tough for it to accumulate.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED SUNDAY 11-1-2020

I've been keeping a close eye on the Gulf of Alaska. This area will slowly become energized in the coming days. I've included a satellite loop below, where you can see a deep shade of blue at the top of the image - indicating the jet stream migrating southward.

The European computer forecast has been very consistent with a storm system diving out of this region and into our area by Friday night into Saturday. Unfortunately, there isn't much moisture available, which will limit our rain chances. Regardless, scattered showers should be possible through Saturday (40%).

This will be the start of a general cooling trend heading into the second week of November. Hopefully this will also lead to more rain chances. It's an uphill battle though: La Nina continues in the equatorial Pacific.
