Tropical storm Sergio will continue to weaken as it moves to the northeast across the Baja. It is being deflected by a storm system that is moving into Northern California this morning. You can spot both features in the satellite loop below. The other system in the central Pacific, which is also seen in the satellite loop, will remain stalled over the ocean waters.
I should preface this outlook: computer forecast models are notoriously terrible with predicting storm systems that deflect tropical storms or hurricanes. They usually exaggerate the impact of the system.
Regardless, most computers are still showing a chance for rain throughout Southern California Friday night into Saturday. This will be associated with the system in Northern California as it settles overhead. Rain totals won't be too impressive (map of totals below), however, a quick shower or even a downpour/thunderstorm can't be ruled out early this weekend. There is plenty of tropical moisture and atmospheric instability, so I'll put rain chances at 40% for the city and 70% for the mountains and East County.
Don't cancel you outdoor plans Saturday, just keep an umbrella handy. Sunday is looking dry and pleasantly cool.
