SAN DIEGO WEATHER UPDATE: THURSDAY 9-22-2016
Enjoy the comfortable weather on Friday, because a heat wave is headed to San Diego and all of Southern California. Inland temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s this weekend (mid to upper 80s along the coast).
We could even see inland temperatures approach 100 early next week (low 90s along the coast). Luckily some heat relief will arrive by the following week.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED 9 PM MONDAY 9-19-2016
Hurricane Paine will rapidly weaken as it moves to the northeast over the next couple days.
There is an upper level low pressure system off the coast of Southern California. This will help to deflect Paine, though I'm still expecting some moisture to reach parts of San Diego County.
Isolated showers and a possible downpour will be possible tonight and Tuesday (40%). I can't can't completely rule out a rumble of thunder either. Isolated showers are still possible Wednesday (30%), then most of the moisture will push eastward by Thursday.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED SUNDAY 9-18-2016
Tropical Storm Paine is currently off the west coast of Mexico and is moving northwest at 14 mph. Most computer forecasts have this system being deflected to the northeast and away from Southern California.
This forecast can be tricky because right now there is a weak low pressure system to the north of Paine. This system is cut off from the jet stream and is drifting aimlessly. Most computer simulations have Paine getting absorbed into the system and moving eastward.
However, computers can be terrible at forecasting cut-off lows. If the system drifts a little farther westward, then the remnants of Paine could creep up from the Baja.
I'll keep watching the data and bring more updates.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 9-5-2016
Tropical Storm Newton is currently churning off the Mexican west coast. It's moving northwest at 15 mph towards Cabo San Lucas. Latest data has the system briefly strengthening to a Category 1 Hurricane. Once it hits landfall, it will weaken to a Tropical Storm, though it will still have some major rain potential.
The computer data has been generally consistent with the path of this system. If anything, they have trended more to the east. This means that the rain chances in Southern California have significantly dropped. In fact, pending any major shifts in the track, we will stay dry.
As always, you can get up-to-date emergency information at the National Hurricane Center:

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED SATURDAY 9-3-2016
As always during this time of the year, I'm keeping a close eye on the Tropics. There is an area of energy developing down off the SW coast of Mexico. It doesn't look too impressive, though it could possibly develop into a depression as it drifts northward.
Computer forecasts continue to show this disturbance moving northward over the next few days. It's still too early to speculate if this could impact our area. In fact, early indications show it missing us to the east.
Regardless, it's definitely worth watching! I'll have more updates in the coming days.
