Computer forecasts continue to show an active weather pattern next week. The first system arrives late Sunday into Monday, bringing a chance for showers and isolated downpours.
Two more systems will bring more rain on-and-off through the entire week. Right now it is too early to get into specifics (timing, rain amounts). A minor shift in the storm track can have a big impact on our outlook, so a lot can change.
I'll continue to monitor the situation and bring more updates once the data becomes more consistent.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED WEDNESDAY 12/23/2015
This last system tapped into some tropical moisture, which helped to boost rain totals. You'll notice on the loop below that the moisture (indicated by reds and bright blues) broke off before it entered our region. Otherwise, our rain totals would have significantly increased. Regardless, it's a sign of a changing weather pattern.
Our next system will not have this tropical connection. Nonetheless, we will have a chance for a few showers tomorrow (Thursday) night into early Christmas Day. It will also be very cold Christmas Day night!
The storm afterwards (1/28 to 1/29) is not looking as impressive. It's still worth watching though.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED 8 PM WED 12/16/2015
Unfortunately the trajectory of the next storm system will be different than anticipated. It will take more of a northwest to southeast path rather than a west to east. This means we will have a quick chance for rain Saturday evening and night.
I'm also keeping an eye on another fast system headed this way around Christmas Eve. This front will bring some rain, but cooler weather will be the biggest impact.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED 10 AM SUN 12/13/2015
The next storm system is quickly headed our way. An isolated shower will be possible this evening from 5 PM to 8 PM (30%), then rain is likely overnight (100%). It looks like most of the rain will exit the region by early Monday morning, so the commute should be mostly fine.
Snow levels could dip down to 3,000-4,000 feet. The highest elevations could get a quick light accumulation of wet snow. Also expect very windy conditions in the mountains over the next 36 hours.
I'm more interested in the next storm system headed our way. It signifies a change in our weather pattern. It might be a sign that El Nino will finally have an influence on the storm track.
Over the past couple months, systems have been diving out of the Gulf Of Alaska and into our area. These type of storms will bring a quick burst of rainfall. Tonight's system is taking this track (shown below).
However, this following system, which will show up around next weekend, will deepen west of us in the Pacific. It will then track eastward into our area (shown below). This could potentially give us a longer period of rain.
This is still far into the future, so a lot can change (timing, track, strength). I'll continue to watch it and bring more updates.

WEATHER UPDATE: 2 PM FRIDAY 12/11/2015
Most of the heaviest rain has left the area. Isolated showers and possibly a quick downpour will be possible into the early evening. We will then be dry for most of the weekend with rain returning Sunday night into Monday. I'll post rain totals in a few hours.
NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED TUE 12/8/2015
Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts, because we have some abrupt changes headed this way! Two storm systems will pass the area bringing rain and colder weather.
The first system will pass Thursday night into Friday, where scattered showers will be possible. The second system arrives next Monday. Snow levels will be fairly low for both systems, so we should see snow in local mountains. High temperatures will dip into the mid to lower 60s with lows in the 40s.
I'll bring more updates in the coming days.
