WEATHER UPDATE: 12 PM MONDAY 5/25/2015

A thick marine layer has brought clouds, mist and drizzle to coastal and inland areas. This should slowly break apart by the afternoon, however, thick clouds and patchy drizzle will return for tonight and early tomorrow morning.

SAN DIEGO RAIN TOTALS: SATURDAY 5/23/2015

A stray isolated shower is possible this weekend, however, the chances are very slim. It looks like the rest of the holiday weekend should be mainly dry. Here are the rain totals from Saturday:

SAN DIEGO RAIN TOTALS: FRIDAY 5/22/2015

An isolated shower is still possible through Sunday, however, the majority of the weekend should be dry.

Here are the rainfall totals from Thursday night into Friday:

SAN DIEGO RAIN TOTALS: UPDATED 11 AM FRIDAY 5/22/2015

Isolated showers will be possible on-and-off for the next couple days. It won't be a washout, so don't cancel any outdoor plans. Keep a close eye to the sky and you should be good to go!

SAN DIEGO RAIN TOTALS & WEATHER UPDATE: 5 PM FRIDAY 5/15/2015

Most of the rain has now moved east of the area. A stray renegade shower could still pop up in the next couple hours, otherwise, we will stay dry through the weekend.

The weather pattern looks cool and somewhat unsettled through next week. We could see one or two quick rain chances, so I will continue to bring updates.

SAN DIEGO RAIN TOTALS & WEATHER UPDATE: 10 AM FRIDAY 5/15/2015

10 AM to 4 PM
Scattered showers and isolated downpours will move across the area. I can't completely rule out a rumble of thunder as well. The highest rain totals will reside in the southern half of San Diego County, near the core of the storm system.

5 PM to 9 PM
Rain starts to taper. A lingering shower or two will be possible, especially in the mountains. However, the bulk of the rain will continue to migrate east this evening and we will remain dry for the weekend.

Here are the storm totals for rainfall so far with this system. I'll have another update later this evening.

SAN DIEGO RAIN TIMELINE: UPDATED 12 PM THURSDAY 5/14

3 PM Thursday to 1 AM Friday
Widely scattered showers are headed this way for the afternoon and evening. An isolated downpour could be embedded within this initial push of rain.

2 AM Friday to 3 PM Friday
The core of the storm system will move overhead tonight and Friday morning. This will bring a better chance for heavier rain and isolated thunderstorms.

4 PM Friday to 11 PM
The bulk of the rain will push east with a lingering isolated shower still possible into the early evening. We will then remain dry for the weekend with variable clouds and cool conditions.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED 11 AM WEDNESDAY 5/13

Periods of rain will be likely Thursday into Friday as a storm system passes the region. Intermittent showers will be possible Thursday, especially in the afternoon and evening. The core of the system will move overhead on Friday. This will bring the potential for heavier rains and isolated thunderstorms. Rain totals will vary from 0.5 to 1.5" with the highest amounts in the mountains.

It's safe to say the most of the rain has now exited the region. Clouds will slowly break through the day and then return for coastal areas, where overnight mist is possible.

Rain totals were impressive in some parts of San Diego county, especially in the mountains.

We will see a brief warm up Sunday and Monday, then cooler weather settles in for the end of the week. Another storm system will approach the area Thursday and Friday and will bring a chance for more rain. The track of the storm will dictate the amount we receive. I'll have more updates later in the week. It appears that we will generally stay in a cool weather pattern for the next two weeks.

WEATHER UPDATE: 4:30 PM FRIDAY 5/8

4:30 PM UPDATE
A few showers and isolated downpours are still possible this evening and tonight. It was nice to hear some thunder last night and this morning!

Rain chances diminish early Saturday morning, though a lingering stray shower in the mountains is possible. Here are the rain totals so far today:

6:30 AM UPDATE
Rain is likely this morning as a storm system passes the area. Heavy downpours and possibly thunder will accompany the strongest storms. This will cause major headaches for the morning commute!

Intermittent showers will still be possible on-and-off this afternoon and evening. Rain chances will diminish by Saturday morning.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED SUNDAY 5/3/2015

A storm system will dive out of the Gulf Of Alaska and down the West Coast of North America and settle into our region (you can spot it on the map to the right). Unfortunately, this isn't an ideal pathway for a good rain storm. Regardless, it will bring showers to Southern California late Thursday and into Friday.

The long term pattern is favorable for another chance for rain around 5-12 to 5-15. It's definitely something to watch. In addition, this pattern will bring cooler than average conditions.
