NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED THURSDAY 2-23-2017

There are a couple small storm systems headed this way by the end of the weekend. You can see the first spinning over Alaska. The second system is right behind. Both systems will bring a chance for showers late Sunday into Monday. I've also attached a preliminary look at computer forecast rain accumulations. Obviously these will change a bit as the systems move closer and the data becomes more reliable.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIGO: UPDATED THURSDAY 2-16-2017

The next storm system is brewing in the Pacific Ocean right now. You can spot the jet stream energy in the upper left of the water vapor loop below (first map). It's going to tap into a decent amount of moisture. You can see the moisture plume in the second map below. Here is a rough timeline of the storm:

FRIDAY
7 AM to 4 PM: Stray isolated shower possible (30%) Snow levels 10,000 to 12,000 feet.
4 PM to 12 AM: Rain moves in from the west. Embedded within the showers will be heavy downpours. (100%) Snow levels 6,000 to 9,000 feet.

SATURDAY
12 AM to 7 AM: The heaviest rain exits the region. (100%) Snow levels 6,000 to 8,000 feet.
7 AM to 7 PM: Isolated showers, or brief downpour will be possible. (60%) Snow levels 5,000 to 6,000 feet.

SUNDAY
7 AM to 7 PM: Lingering isolated shower possible. (30%) Snow levels 5,000 to 6,000 feet.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 2-13-2017

Rain is looking likely for the end of the workweek and into the upcoming weekend. Showers and occasional downpours will be possible Friday and especially into Friday night (90%). Isolated showers will persist into Saturday (60%) and possibly Sunday (30%).

The latest computer data suggests the system is trending slower and farther south (first map below is yesterday's data, the second map is from today). If this trend continues, the highest rain totals could miss us to the south. Regardless, we could still get a good soaking from this system.

Another rain chance will arrive early next week - possibly next Tuesday or Wednesday.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 2-6-2017

A few showers will be possible today and tomorrow as a front passes the area. Rain totals won't be too impressive, but we'll take whatever we can get.

Another system passes late Friday into Friday night. Scattered showers are possible, however, the brunt of the storm will miss us to the north.

Then we will see a period of warm and dry weather from Sunday, 2/12 to Wednesday, 2/15 (indicated in red on the first map below).

Afterwards, long range computer forecasts are now hinting at a stormy and wet period headed this way by the end of next workweek, starting roughly around 2/16 to 2/17 (indicated in blue on the second map below). This is definitely worth watching because it could bring substantial rainfall to most of Southern California. I'll bring more updates in the coming days.
