NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED THURSDAY 3-22-2018

Showers have overspread the western third of San Diego County. Periods of rain will continue on-and-off for the rest of today across the county. The rain chances persist through tonight and into early Friday morning, then the rest of Friday will be dry. Rain totals will range from 0.25 to 0.5". Snow levels will stay above 8,000 feet.

Another system will pass the area over the weekend. There is very little moisture available, so rain totals will be limited. A quick isolated shower is possible Saturday evening and through the day on Sunday. Snow levels will be lower, ranging from 4,500 to 5,500 feet.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 3-19-2018

A storm system is currently off the West Coast (satellite loop below). It is cut off from the jet stream, so it is weakening and moving slowly. Regardless, it has the potential to dump rain throughout parts of Central California.

Clouds will stream into our skies Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of this system, however, rain chances are slim. Most precipitation will stay north of our area along the Central Coast and Northern California.

Rain chances then arrive Thursday into Friday. Rain totals will be limited in San Diego with this system. I've posted the computer outlook through Friday below.

Snow levels will stay above 6,000 feet, so I'm not expecting accumulations in local mountains. I've included the computer forecast snow totals through Friday afternoon.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED FRIDAY 3-16-2018

The next storm system is on our doorstep. Showers will move into the area from 8 PM to midnight. The heaviest rain will exit the region Saturday morning with a stray isolated shower possible into the early afternoon. Snow levels will range from 5,000 to 6,000 feet.

Another chance for rain arrives Saturday night. The core of the system will be passing overhead, so there will be enough lift and instability for an isolated thunderstorm. The rain chance will quickly diminish by early Sunday morning. Snow levels will range from 4,000 to 5,000 feet for the second round of rain.

I've attached the computer forecast for rainfall and snow totals.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED TUESDAY 3-13-2018

The active weather pattern will continue for most of the West Coast. A large and weakening storm system is spinning off the coast (seen on satellite loop below). Pieces of energy will spin around this system and into our area.

Light rain will arrive from 8 PM to 11 PM tonight. Light rain and isolated showers will persist though midday Wednesday.

Another round of rain will pass the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning. A stray shower could pop up on Friday, however, most of the day looks dry. Then round three will move into Southern California Friday night. This will linger into early Saturday afternoon.

Snow levels will generally stay above 6,000 feet, though they could briefly dip down to 4,500 feet Thursday morning.

I've included computer forecast rain and snow totals through Sunday morning (below). You can see that the amounts will be fairly low in our area. Luckily the Sierra's continue to get a lot of precip!

Yet another chance for rain should arrive Tuesday/Wednesday of next week.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED FRIDAY 3-9-2018

Clouds will begin to move into our area by this afternoon and evening (seen on the satellite loop below). This is ahead of our next storm system, which will bring rain to Southern California over the weekend.

Showers should move into the area from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday. Periods of showers will then persist through early Sunday. Rain chances quickly diminish by Sunday afternoon/evening. This is a fairly weak system, so rain totals will be limited. Coastal and inland areas will receive about 0.25", though some areas in the mountains could pick up near 1" (forecast map below).

Snow levels are going to be high, so I'm not expecting any snow in local mountains of San Diego County.

Another chance for rain will arrive by the end of next workweek.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED THURSDAY 3-1-2018

The next storm system is quickly approaching our area (seen on the satellite loop below). This will bring showers to San Diego by Friday evening and Friday night (starting roughly 7-10 PM). Periods of showers and isolated downpours will persist through the day Saturday, though it won't be a complete washout. Rain chances quickly diminish Saturday evening and night. Most areas will see about 0.5" of rain or less, though some could see a little more. Sunday looks mostly sunny and cool.

Snow levels will be 5,000 to 6,000 feet Friday night, then steadily drop to 3,000 to 4,000 feet Saturday night as the system exits the region. Snow accumulations will be mainly confined to elevations above 6,000 feet. I've attached a computer forecast for snow below. Some areas in the Sierras will receive several feet of snow, which is great news!
