NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED TUSEDAY 4-30-2019

Patchy drizzle and light rain will persist into tonight, then the sun will return on Wednesday.

I'm still watching a storm system out in the Pacific that will bring us another chance for rain. You can spot it on the satellite loop below. There is a slight chance for a shower Sunday, then a better chance for rain arrives Monday as the core of the system passes overhead. There is enough instability that an isolated downpour or thunderstorm will be possible. However, there isn't much moisture with this system, so it won't be a complete washout. A lingering shower is still possible Tuesday, then the rain chances diminish by Wednesday.

SAN DIEGO RAIN TOTALS: MONDAY 4-29-2019 TO TUESDAY 4-30-2019

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED FRIDAY 4-26-2019

A large storm system is spinning in the Pacific to the west of Southern California (seen on the satellite loop below). This system is weakening and doesn't have a lot of moisture. Most computer forecasts have this system drifting overhead Monday into Monday night. We could see a couple showers pop up during this time period. In addition, the atmosphere will be somewhat unstable, so isolated thunderstorms will be possible. Timing is key with this forecast. If the system speeds up, the thunderstorm chances will push east. Regardless, I'll put rain chances at 40% across the entire county.

Another system will follow this a could bring a slight chance for rain around Cinco de Mayo. Again, this is far away and a lot could change. In addition, climatology is working against us at this point...we are heading towards dry season!

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED 4-19-2019

A weak storm system is currently off the Southern California coast. You can see it on the satellite loop below. It will kick up a few clouds today and patchy fog tonight, otherwise, rain chances are very slim.

Another system is diving down from the north. You can see it emerging on the satellite loop. This system will clip our area and bring a quick chance for light rain Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Rain chances are sitting around 30-40%. Definitely don't cancel any outdoor plans. The vast majority of the weekend looks dry and comfortably cool.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 4-15-2019

A storm system will glide down the West Coast and clip our area tonight and Tuesday. You can see it off the Oregon coast on the satellite loop below. Drizzle or very light rain will develop tonight, then we will have a chance for hit-and-miss showers through Tuesday. The rain chance quickly diminishes Tuesday night. This system is fairly moisture-starved, plus the track isn't ideal for heavy rain. Regardless, it's always nice to get some late-season rainfall!

WEATHER UPDATE: FRIDAY 4-5-2019

A quick update: Patches of drizzle and light rain will slowly diminish into the afternoon. We will see another round of drizzle and light rain develop tonight and early Saturday morning. However, this will quickly dissipate and the majority of the weekend will remain dry. I'll post rain totals tomorrow morning once this system has moved out of the area.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE SAN DIEGO: UPDATED MONDAY 4-1-2019

I've been closely watching the weather pattern over the past couple weeks. Storm systems are starting to lose their punch and are tracking farther north. It's a sign of the changing seasons. This next system is no exception. You can spot it on the satellite loop below.

There will be a chance for some light rain Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. Although rain is possible through the entire area, the best chances are in the mountains. Rain totals will be less than 0.25".

A couple more storm systems will pass the area on Thursday and Friday. They will bring clouds, but the chances for rain are slim. Most of the moisture will stay north.

We'll see another warming trend into early next week. I'm keeping an eye on a possible system by the middle of the month which could possibly track far enough south to bring us some rain. Again, climatology is working against us, but it's still worth watching.
